Orthographic Set

I drew the orthographic set of a given three-dimensional object. I worked on the representation of the projection of a three-dimensional object in 2 dimensions. In addition, the line hierarchy was an important issue in this study in terms of separating the surfaces close to and far from the projection plane and differentiating the object and reference lines in the drawing.

We made a physical model for the proposed design of the Adana historical city center in the process of calculated change. In this study, we used a different model making method for the first time. We made the city texture from clay and the structures we proposed from wood and cardboard. Before the model making process, we prepared a mold to shape the clay and pressed it into that mold before the clay dried. We also produced a partial test model before producing the final version of the model and made some minor changes to our model making method based on the experiences we gained from our demo.  The whole process was very fun and creative.

Regulating Lines

Regulating Lines Discussion

I read the chapter on regulating lines in the book Towards A New Architecture by Le Corbusier and wrote a discussion paper for the Arch 121 course.

Could there be common aspects in a simple temporary tent structure, a historical temple or a modern building? Although these are very different from each other, if they are not random structures, they actually have a common aspect and these are regulating lines. For example, the door in the middle of a triangular structure in a tent, the relationship between the openings of a rectangular building or the roof slope being an extension of other elements on the structure, in other words, lines. These lines are used in most designs, whether intentionally or not, but I do not agree with the idea that it is not right to go beyond these lines and the ratio. Although these are auxiliary regulating lines that create a rhythm with different patterns between the hierarchy of the elements that help the design, they are often subject to strict rules. Regulating lines can produce symmetrical or proportional results, but the combination of the lines does not have to be like this. There can be countless different ways to bring regulating lines together and these may still be based on a mathematical basis. Although the requirements of the age are insufficient to solve this, the structures we see in different timelines also show how diverse the regulating lines can be. In addition, it is an important tool that supports the regulating lines is the unit and helps to understand and adjust the proportion of the composition created by the regulating lines.

Animation of Arch401 Project

I made an animation of Arch 401 project. This animation includes the operations and new structures in the Adana historical city center for the final version of the project. Adana historic city center in the process of calculated change project aims to establish a city center that can adapt to the endless total change that will occur in a long timeline. In that manner, it includes operations such as transformation, retrofitting, recycling, demolition, renewing, protecting, and new program suggestions that will keep the city center alive and attract people to this area. Thanks to this work, I learned to work in different mediums and I used various architectural communication techniques.
